November Comics / cómics de noviembre

I read quite a few good comics in November. The new arc of Eternals is shaping up to be great. The first issues of Laura, The Human Target and What’s the Furthest Place From Here were very promising! I continue to enjoy Batman Reptile and The Blue Flame, and I particularly loved the reedition of Batman Noel. However, my favorite comic of the month was, again, The Nice House on the Lake, in this 6th issue, James Tynion IV creates a fascinating conclusion for the first arc of the series. And now without further ado, here are November comics as per solicitations:

BATMAN NOEL HC
(W/A/CA) Lee Bermejo. Inspired by Charles Dickens’s immortal classic A Christmas Carol, Batman: Noel takes the Dark Knight on a journey into his own past, present, and future as he battles villains from campy 1960s rivals to dark modern menaces. While Batman fights for his soul in a frozen Gotham landscape, his supporting cast take up recognizable roles analogous to Dickens’s original holiday tale. Written and drawn by comic book superstar Lee Bermejo (Batman: Damned), Batman: Noel offers a beautiful and unexpected retelling of a beloved classic.

BATMAN REPTILIAN #5
(W) Garth Ennis (A/CA) Liam Sharp. After following a trail of carnage, Batman has finally come face-to-face with the reptilian that's been menacing Gotham’s underworld. And this horrific creature only wants one thing: its mother. But who is its mother? Pick up this penultimate chapter to find out the impossible answer to that question!

BLUE FLAME #5
(W) Christopher Cantwell (A/CA) Adam Gorham. The Blue Flame presents his opening argument to the Tribunal Consensus, finally beginning to make his case for the salvation of humanity by leading a hyper-visual tour of its beautiful accomplishments. But at home in Milwaukee, Sam Brausam is still dealing with extensive PTSD and becomes volatile in the house. With a baby well on the way, his sister Dee demands he go to a tragedy support group and seek help or move out. As the defense makes its counter opening argument, Sam faces prying and morbid curiosity from his new group therapy peers, leading him to seek solace with Reed Gordon again-but she may be unwilling to offer any, given her own dark and tragic past.

ETERNALS #7
(W) Kieron Gillen (A/CA) Esad Ribic. NEW ARC! NEW JUMPING-ON POINT! MORE THANOS! The Eternals have learned the truth of their existence. Their society is in shambles. Who can lead them? Who is the visionary that can lead them from the ashes? And how did they take the throne? Hail Thanos the Mad Titan, Eternal Prime. Welcome to a new day. Welcome to hell. RATED T+

HOUSE OF SLAUGHTER #1
(W) James TynionIV, Tate Brombal (A) Chris Shehan, Werther Dell'Edera (CA) Chris Shehan. Discover the inner workings of the House of Slaughter in this new horror series exploring the secret history of the Order that forged Erica Slaughter into the monster hunter she is today. You know Aaron Slaughter as Erica's handler and rival. But before he donned the black mask, Aaron was a teenager training within the House of Slaughter. Surviving within the school is tough enough, but it gets even more complicated when Aaron falls for a mysterious boy destined to be his competition. Dive deeper into the world of Something is Killing the Children in this first story arc by co-creator James Tynion IV (The Department of Truth, The Nice House on the Lake) and co-writer Tate Brombal (Barbalien), with art by rising star Chris Shehan (The Autumnal) and co-creator Werther Dell'Edera (Razorblades).

HUMAN TARGET #1
(W) Tom King (A/CA) Greg Smallwood. Christopher Chance has made a living out of being a human target—a man hired to disguise himself as his client to invite would-be assassins to attempt his murder. He’s had a remarkable career until his latest case protecting Lex Luthor when things go sideways. An assassination attempt Chance didn’t see coming leaves him vulnerable and left trying to solve his own murder...as he has 12 days to discover just who in the DCU hated Luthor enough to want him dead. Human Target is a hard-boiled, gritty story in the vein of classic detective noirs told by bestselling and critically acclaimed creators Tom King and Greg Smallwood!

JUPITERS LEGACY REQUIEM #5
(W) Mark Millar (A) Tommy Lee Edwards (CA) Kevin Maguire. The aliens Lady Liberty found in space come to Earth and explain that their origins are identical to our world's heroes. Is there someone out there seeding the universe with superheroes? And for what purpose? Meanwhile, Skyfox is back doing what he does best, and that's fighting superheroes. But will his family ever forgive him?

LAURA #1
(W/A/CA) Guillem March. Before his work on Batman and the hit Joker series, before he created Karmen, there was the heartfelt story of Laura, the book that led to Guillem March to the mainstream comics world! Suffering from the ever-painful experience of unrequited love, twenty-year-old Laura takes a look at her life. Is the fact that the boy she has feelings for is in love with someone else mean there is something wrong with her? Or is that just how young love goes? And what will happen when she tries to get past the hurt and move on with her life? Laura is an exploration into the mind of a young woman who has experiencing something most people have, but in an honest and beautiful way that only Guillem March can bring us.

SUPERGOD #1-5
(W) Warren Ellis (A/CA) Garrie Gastonny.

THE NICE HOUSE ON THE LAKE #6
(W) James Tynion IV (A/CA) Alvaro Martinez Bueno. The House has an eleventh guest. Reg is here—and that was never part of the plan. Or was it? Everything you know gets turned upside down in this issue…ending on a cliffhanger that will have to hold you until the House reopens in March 2022!

WHAT'S THE FURTHEST PLACE FROM HERE #1
(W) Matthew Rosenberg (A/CA) Tyler Boss. TRIPLE-SIZED FIRST ISSUE! A postapocalyptic coming-of-age story from 4 Kids Walk into a Bank's TYLER BOSS & MATTHEW ROSENBERG. The world has ended. All that remains are gangs of children living among the ruins. But Sid believes there must be something more out there. When she disappears into the wastelands, her gang will risk everything to bring her home. A story about the things that matter most-your survival, your loved ones, and your record collection.

¡Los primeros números de Laura, The Human Target y What’s the Farhest Place From Here fueron muy prometedores!

LAURA #1

HOUSE OF SLAUGHTER #1

THE NICE HOUSE ON THE LAKE #6

SUPERGOD #1-6
(W) Warren Ellis (A/CA) Garrie Gastonny.

WHAT'S THE FURTHEST PLACE FROM HERE #1

In March I had the opportunity to get my hands on some classic material like New Mutants and James Robinson’s The Golden Age. I also enjoyed reading Silver Surfer, Jessica Jones, Doctor Strange and Infamous Iron Man, and most especially Cinema Purgatorio (Alan Moore and Garth Ennis continue to deliver amazing stories). And I have to say that the first issue of American Gods was very good. However, my favorite issue of the month was Astro City #41, a touching story with a unique take on the superhero genre that only an author like Kurt Busiek could’ve created. And now without further ado here are March comics as per solicitations:

Set at the start of one of the darkest periods of U.S. history, the infamous 'McCarthy Era,' JSA: THE GOLDEN AGE takes a thought-provoking look at what might have happened to DC's first generation of super heroes beyond their exploits during the Second World War, as paranoia pervades America. But behind the scenes, something even more sinister is unfolding-a subtle plot that may engulf the planet and remake it in one man's image. Collects THE GOLDEN AGE #1-4 in a Deluxe hardcover for the first time.

SILVER SURFER #9

________________________________________________________________________________________________

En marzo tuve la oportunidad de revisar material clásico como los New Mutants y The Golden Age de James Robinson. También disfruté leyendo Silver Surfer, Jessica Jones, Doctor Strange e Infamous Iron Man, y especialmente Cinema Purgatorio (Alan Moore y Garth Ennis continúan produciendo historias asombrosas).

INFAMOUS IRON MAN #5

JSA: THE GOLDEN AGE DELUXE EDITION HC

NEW MUTANTS EPIC COLLECTION: RENEWAL TPB

February may be the shortest month, but certainly there was no shortage of comics supply! It was great to finally receive Byrne’s Alpha Flight Omnibus as well as Alan Moore’s Another Suburban Romance. There are some quite good Marvel monthly series but once again I was surprised by the quality of Invincible. My favorite comic of the month is Jason Aaron’s Unworthy Thor #4. And now, without further ado, here are February comics as per solicitations:

ALPHA FLIGHT BY JOHN BYRNE OMNIBUS HC
(W/A) Various (CA) John Byrne. Legendary writer/artist John Byrne steers one of his greatest creations to glory! Exploding from the pages of X-MEN, Canada's premier super-team Alpha Flight takes the Marvel Universe by storm before starring in its own Byrne-helmed series! Guardian, Shaman, Snowbird, Sasquatch, Aurora, Northstar, Puck and Marrina fight to protect Canada from injustice and evil - including Master of the World, the maniacal alchemist Diablo and the terrifying Great Beasts! But they'll face their darkest defeat at the hands of rival Omega Flight. And when an Alphan falls, can the team fight on? Plus: Loki! The Hulk! And more! Collecting X-MEN (1963) #109, #120-121 and #139-140; MACHINE MAN (1978) #18; MARVEL TWO-IN-ONE (1974) #83-84; INCREDIBLE HULK (1968) #272, #313 and ANNUAL #8; ALPHA FLIGHT (1983) #1-29; X-MEN AND ALPHA FLIGHT (1985) #1-2; X-MEN/ALPHA FLIGHT (1998) #1-2; and material from MARVEL TEAM-UP ANNUAL #7. Rated T

ANOTHER SUBURBAN ROMANCE
(W) Alan Moore (A/CA) Juan Jose Ryp. One of the seminal works from the writer who defined modern comics, Alan Moore, is re-mastered for the first time in breathtakingly vibrant color! Alan Moore's performance works making up the play Another Suburban Romance are translated into print and lavishly illustrated as full sequential stories. Comprised of three major pieces, adapted from Moore's original presentations by frequent collaborator Antony (Fashion Beast) Johnston, this original graphic novel is completely illustrated by Juan Jose Ryp. Running from the 1920's Chicago style killings in Old Gangsters Never Die, to the ruminations on modern life in the namesake piece Another Suburban Romance, this powerful work is an essential piece of the Alan Moore graphic novel library that no fan will want to miss!

CHAMPIONS #5

ALPHA FLIGHT BY JOHN BYRNE OMNIBUS HC
Recopila X-MEN (1963) # 109, # 120-121 y # 139-140; MACHINE MAN (1978) # 18; MARVEL TWO-IN-ONE (1974) # 83 - 84; INCREDIBLE HULK (1968) # 272, # 313 y ANNUAL # 8; ALFA VUELO (1983) # 1-29; X-MEN Y ALFA VUELO (1985) # 1-2; X-MEN / ALPHA FLIGHT (1998) # 1 - 2; Y material de MARVEL TEAM-UP ANNUAL # 7.

ANOTHER SUBURBAN ROMANCE

INFAMOUS IRON MAN #4

TRUE BELIEVERS: WOLVERINE VS. HULK #1

TRUE BELIEVERS: WOLVERINE #1

TRUE BELIEVERS: WOLVERINE – SAVE THE TIGER #1

UNWORTHY THOR #4

Unlike other months, there were only a few comics in March, but they were good ones. Doctor Strange continues to surprise me; I’ve also been enjoying Paper Girls a lot more than I thought I would. I would consider The Young Protectors as the best comic of the month, but it wasn’t originally published in 2016, so to follow my own rules, I’d say International Iron Man # 1 wins this time. And now without further ado here are March comics as per solicitations:

ALL-NEW, ALL-DIFFERENT AVENGERS #6
(W) Mark Waid (A) Mahmud A. Asrar (CA) Alex Ross. The villain pulling the Avengers' strings stands revealed - someone who's been a part of Avengers history for almost all of the team's existence, in a way you've never seen them before! The All-New, All-Different Avengers' first story arc ends here - and you won't guess who's left standing on the last page. Rated T+

DISCIPLINE #1
(W) Peter Milligan (A/CA) Leandro Fernandez. Between fighting her sister and hating her husband, Melissa still finds time to fall in lust with a stranger who's an awful lot more than he seems. What appears to be a simple seduction is revealed as something much darker and more dangerous. This controversial and erotically-charged tale of sex, death, and metamorphosis begins with an explosion of carnality and weirdness.

DOCTOR STRANGE #6
(W) Jason Aaron (A) Chris Bachalo (CA) Kevin Nowlan. 'THE LAST DAYS OF MAGIC' STARTS NOW! The Emperikul have arrived, leaving universes purged of magic in their wake. Their next target? The Marvel Universe. And with Doctor Strange weakened beyond measure? We don't have a chance! Rated T+

Now, it is time to uncover what his legacy truly is, a journey that will carry Tony into new directions as a man and as a super hero. Alongside his strange new quasi-ally Doctor Doom, Iron Man will discover new things about the Marvel Universe he didn't know existed before! A character deconstruction from Bendis and Maleev along the lines of their award-winning DAREDEVIL run! Rated T+

ALL-NEW, ALL-DIFFERENT AVENGERS #6

INTERNATIONAL IRON MAN #1

JUPITER'S CIRCLE, VOL. 2 #4
